I can't say I really knew what to expect from my trip to Africa, except that it would be memorable. I had conversations with people who had been there, read some books, searched some websites - but nothing prepared me for what I was to experience.

As a company, the Frontier Group had decided it was time we 'gave back' to the community and we felt we should do so by donating our talent. Since we are a team-building company, we jumped at the chance when someone suggested that a group of leaders from a small community centre in Ndola, Zambia would welcome some training. This team had not had the opportunity to do any training and professional development or re!ect on what it was that made them an effective team.

When talking to our clients about how they make the final decision on what team experiences to include in their agenda, they often comment that it is very challenging to decide from such a wide range of options that include team building, keynote-speakers and golf. The reality is that all of these options have some great benefits and unique opportunity costs.

team is very unique, one thing I find consistent with almost all groups is that they identify “change” as a factor that is currently impacting their effectiveness.
